Well, since I live in the vicinity, I guess it's my turn. 51 is the slum of slums. I'm sorry. It's just one of the shadiest liquor stores within a 3 mi. radius of Naylor rd./Branch ave. If I didn't live so close to or pass by it everyday. I would say avoid it at all costs. But, it is a popular destination for all types of interesting and questionable characters. There's always bums hanging around it. They are always pretty busy. People can get their drink, lotto and lasciviousness on. They have a fine selection of tastes and spirits. It's the area, and their clientele that scares you off. I have never had any problem patronizing it. You go in, get your goods and get out. Follow those 3 steps and you're welcome.

I used to live in the apartments right above 51. This was the late 80-92. 51 always had bums outside, I was a kid, I was never allowed to go there at night though. I missed the old neighborhood, we had some great times in the woods behind the apartments. The 1 thing I can remember they had some good hot foods on Fridays and Saturday nights. My mom would let us get a platter on the Saturday nights sometimes. I don't recall ever being afraid to go down there, I was about 10yrs old. I do know it was the spot to go to after the Liquor Stores closed in DC

One night I was coming back from Wednesday night at church. Hope of the station and taken a cab. I stop by here to break a $20. I walk in every body turn around. Man I got my money and a fruit drink and got out of there. I mean the wrong place. I wood never go there again. Don't go here. It's not worth it.

Now, this liquor store may be right smack dab in the middle of the hood, right by SE, but I have never been to a better liquor store in my life. I mean, I have been coming to this place since I was 18. Yes, I said 18! For as long as I have been coming here, I have NEVER been carded...ever! I don't even think I have even seen them card people. I know I probably shouldn't be throwing them under the bus, but I am just keeping it real. Nothing fancy about this place at all, just a place to go where you can get some good liquor without being hassled and annoyed, with long lines for no reason and crazy prices (ABC store). You might get a couple of people trying to get your number though. Haha...
